Saturday Night Fever was actually a lot better than I thought is was going to be. It definitely captures the disco and late night scene of the 70's very well. It mainly revolves around Tony, John Travolta, and his life changes. Although there are a lot of other interesting characters in the movie. For instance his one friend who is wining all the time about everything and always asking about what he should do about his girlfriends pregnancy. He is trying to reach out for help throughout the whole film and eventually snaps and ends up "accidentally" killing himself.
Also Tony's other friends are just crazy dudes. They all love to drink, do drugs, party, and get girls. The one ends up in the hospital because he gets jump. Then the rest of them jump the guys that he said did it. Then you find out he wasn't 100% sure it was them. Then you got his other friends who pretty much rape the girl who is infatuated with Tony. I mean the characters in this movie are crazy. I definitely did not expect this film to be good. But I must say it was very good. And the characters are very interesting.

Shaft
He is one bad motha....shut your mouth. Shaft is the epitimy of 70's. He is a cool, smooth, down to earth guy that everyone wants to be. Just everything he does is amazing. He gets the girls and fights the mafia. He is the ultimate badass. He is a private detective that does whatever it takes to get the job done. This is very 70's. He won't take orders from anyone but himself and if you get in his way expect an ass whooping.
Taxi Driver
Taxi Driver is one of my favorite films. This movie is fantastic in every way. The one main thing I want to talk about is the character of Travis Bickle. A lot of people have mixed feelings about this character. They don't know whether to love him or hate him. Well I will say I love the character. He is such a complex character that can be interpreted in many different ways by people.
My opinion may differ from a lot of peoples views of him. First of they don't go into detail about it but we know he served in the war. I think this is why Travis is the way he is . He probably saw and did some things in the war that made him think the world is a cesspool of shitty people. Also we see him taking some prescription medication in a certain scene. I think that confirms my interpretation of his background. Also he is a very nice guy besides the fact that he is a little bit off. He is very nice to most of the people he meets throughout the film.
I think Travis is just a crime fighting vigilante if you ask me. I think he is trying to kill the politician because he is a crooked politician. I may have interpreted a scene differently from other people. The scene where Travis picks up the politician in his cab, I think the politician is talking bout some dirty stuff and I think Travis picks up on that. That is why I think he tries to kill him because he's another scumbag in the world.
Also the Isis situation is another instance. He is trying to save this poor innocent girl from the scumbag world of society. He decides to take justice into his own hands because he knows nothing else will work. The cops won't do anything, and these scumbags will be free to walk the Earth. So Travis does what he thinks is the best thing possible and kills all the scumbags. This is why I love the character of Travis Bickle. He is so complex and amazing.

Jaws
Jaws was a very good movie. I would definitely say it is a very 70's movie. For instance the mayor in the movie. The mayor is a selfish politician that only cares about making money for the town and not about the people. He has several chances to save people but it always comes down to the money. It finally takes him to realize his dumb ways when his kids are on the beach when an attack happens. His character is a 70's character in my opinion. Corrupt politician that doesn't care about the people.
Also the character of Martin is very 70's. He is one man trying to make a difference and eventually does. He starts out as a very caring person who wants to keep everyone safe. But as usual in the 70's the crooked politicians won't let him do what he wants. He goes along with it until finally the mother of one of the victims slaps him and tells him whats up. This finally makes him stand up and do whatever it takes to kill the shark. Proving that one person can make a difference.

The Conversation
The conversation was an awesome film. The sound design was absolutely amazing for the film. I did not expect a movie that was made in 1974 to sound so good. Although when you watch a movie called The Conversation you would hope the sound is very good. The sound design was very detailed. Also it was very in your face almost over the top. For instance, the scene where he is on the elevator with the girl the elevator sounds and movement are so extreme you cant help but be sucked into the tension of the scene. Also the sound for the recordings he takes was very rememberable. It was that one synthetic sound they used to simulate the recording being unrecognizable that stuck out. They repeat this sound many time throughout the film. Another sound that I won't forget is, the girls scream when Harry is in the hotel. That sound sent a chill up my spine. Overall I really enjoyed this film. Another thing I wanted to point out is that Harry was not thinking when he tore apart his apartment. It was sweet irony at it's finest. Earlier in the film when he was at the convention that other guy showed off the technology of how he could turn the phone into a recording device. Harry calls this thing a piece of garbage. It's funny because if you ask me that is what they used to record him in the ending. If you pay attention, they call him while he is playing the sax. He gets up and answers the phone and no one is there. He sits back down and begins to play the sax again. At this point, if you ask me, they called once to activate the phone as a recorder. When they call him the second time they play back him playing the sax. He totally flips out and rips apart his apartment to find the bug. It's ironic that the technology that he called garbage caused him to completely flip his wig.
The Parallax View
This movie was a very good conspiracy movie. There were a lot of twists and turns throughout the movie. I really enjoyed the ending of this movie. The fact that he gets capped even though he was so close to freedom was crazy. Also in the end, its as if none of the events of the movie even matter. He is just another statistic of a elaborate cover up. This probably scared the crap out of a lot of people who watched this movie. Another thing that was crazy was the seen where Joe goes to take the test at the company. The images in that seen were very creative and chilling at the same time. I will not soon forget that seen.

Coming Home
Coming Home was definitely my favorite movie we've watched yet. I liked how it gave you the reality of what the returning Vietnam veterans had to face when coming home. It was sad to see how poorly the veterans were treated. I definitely think this movie could have helped out America's opinion of the Vietnam War had it been realeased earlier.
Also I really enjoyed the soundtrack of the film. The soundtrack really fit the movie well. Some of the songs didn't seem like a good choice for certain scenes but I think they fit very well. Even though they would play an upbeat song when someone was gonna kill themselves or other scenes like that it still fit perfect. It gave you the sense of turmoil because the music didn't quite go with what was happing on screen. Although the lyrics always seemed to make sense with the scene even if the music did not, in my opinion.
